ASPIRE Events, based in Dubai is managed by a group of young professionals who have excellent work experience over the past many years in various fields like IT and lifestyle publishing, event management, corporate meetings and conferences, PR, media, printing and advertising. As apart of our expansion plan, we will start our publishing and events division for India based in Bangalore shortly.
The role
The company is looking for an editor, who will be responsible for delivering the overall editorial vision/strategy and managing all aspects of the news operation. This is an opportunity for a talented and ambitious journalist with editorial experience (an already experienced editor, or someone looking to step up) to join an exciting new start-up business and really make their mark.
As a B2B / B2C monthly magazine, it aims to offer its intelligent, inquiring, optimistic readers the best of what’s available in India and internationally. This new magazine for entrepreneurs will also connect kindred spirits and enable people to take their interests and passions further. Supporting and developing the online community will be an important part of the editor’s role.
General management capabilities are required to ensure all content is delivered on time, to a high quality standard, and to budget.
Key responsibilities:
To direct and implement the content strategy
To recruit, manage and motivate a national and international network of freelance journalists
To manage news agencies, specifically Direct News
Story selection, editing, sub-editing, and proofing
To edit and upload all web content
To ensure all content is well SEO-ed and inter-linked
To compile a daily email and regular e-newsletters/e-zines
To oversee the development of the online community
To spot and develop new opportunities, working closely with marketing colleagues
To manage the editorial budget
As editor, you will be expected to oversee the magazine’s editorial strategy both in print and online.
Candidate experience and skills required:
First-rate editing skills (online editing experience essential, print experience an advantage)
Strong news sense and cultural sense
Great eye for stories and a flair for writing strong headlines
Interest in/experience of online communities
An entrepreneurial outlook and an ability to be “hands on” and get “stuck in”
Self-motivated, energetic and proactive
Ability to lead and manage a “virtual” team
Ability to multitask and work under pressure
Meticulous attention to detail
Sense of humour
Knowledge of copyright law an advantage
